Jake Gyllenhaal Relied a Lot On Zoom To Make ‘The Guilty’

Jake Gyllenhaal uses his hands to speak while at the screening of The Guilty at the DGA Theater on Friday night (September 24) in New York City.

In a new interview about his upcoming Netflix movie, the 40-year-old actor revealed that the crew relied a lot on Zoom to get the film made in just 11 days time.

“We were a slave to a particular technology, which was Zoom,” he explained to The Verge. “And that creates a rhythm. Even in our introductions, we would come on, and you don’t want to interrupt someone. That’s the essence of acting: rhythm.”

Jake continued, “When your rhythm is dictated to you by a technological thing, it leaves less room for something feeling alive. And we had to navigate that for the first four or five days. It was like someone took a quarter of a second out of my instinct. And if you’re a professional at whatever you do, acting in particular, rhythm is everything.”

“Ask a quarterback, you take a quarter of a second away from their throw, that means the difference between missing or not.”

The Guilty will be out on October 1.
